The first Aalto DBA is fresh from the oven! Elina Kukkonen defended her dissertation: ”Gaining more value from Customer Relationships in the Digital Business Environment” on April fools’ day. But our stellar candidate was nobody’s fool; an excellent work! Elina certainly fulfilled all the requirements, both academic and managerial. Aalto EE congratulates its first DBA!
Quite a while has passed since I last updated you on my academic adventures. This is definitely not due to lack of issues to write about, nor is it a sign of a standstill. On the contrary! This article has been waiting to be published for a while in the abyss of the cloud, or my computer... The next one will not wait that long, I promise.
I am writing this in the library where, at the pace of a snail, (or is there a creature slower than a snail I could use as a metaphor) I am rewriting my first paper, my first “submission”.
According to my study plan I should be much further with my writing than what the present situation is. But I guess this is how it will be until the final goal is reached. Presumably I should add “hopefully” to “reaching the goal”…
The weeks and months since the DBA seminar, my focus in view of advancing my research, (embryonic stage research, I might add…) has been on qualitative research, or more precisely reading books and articles on the topic. “Qualitative business research methods” is namely one of the compulsory courses we all DBA students need to take.
The first blog post from February ended with a promise, and I quote “Next time, I will write the post together with my supervisor just to test the thickness of my academic skin.” So be it. I have invited Professor Henrikki Tikkanen to answer some questions and to share his views on what has happened so far on my academic path. In his world, this fascinating world of academic research, I am, after all, a dilettante.
”Aalto University offers a global DBA program especially tailored for executives and other top-level business professionals, who desire a high-quality doctorate in business administration and are committed to conducting doctoral level research in strategic management, marketing or other business disciplines.” This is a quotation from the Aalto University Executive Education DBA brochure.
An exciting opportunity definitely worth dreaming about, to channel one’s ambitions towards and to contemplate: Am I ready and able? Will I find the time to do it and am I committed enough? These are quotations from my head.
